“It is one of Portugal’s most imposing and artistically rich civil monuments. Commissioned in 1501 by D. Jaime, 4th Duke of Bragança, it served for centuries as the principal residence of the House of Bragança. In 1640, it became a royal palace and the monarchs’ summer residence.
Classified as a National Monument, the palace overlooks the vast Terreiro do Paço and stands out for its spectacular 110-metre-long Mannerist façade, entirely clad in locally quarried marble.”
