“It is an imposing medieval fortress classified as a National Monument.
Its structure was extensively modernised in the 16th and 17th centuries, making it one of the earliest and most effective examples of military architecture featuring bastions and moats in Portugal, designed to withstand heavy artillery.
Today, the castle’s interior is managed by the Casa de Bragança Foundation and houses two important museums: the Hunting Museum and the Archaeology Museum.”
